The moment I arrived in tokyo (Narita Airport) I knew I was cutting it close to my connecting flight to Itami Airport as my flight was 1 full hour late. There was a ground hostess holding a sign with my name on it in the hall way. Just like how japan is, they start with apologizing, the reason for apologizing, apologize again, and what my options are..tick tock tick tock.... My option ( no "S") was to take a bus 1.5 hours - 2 hours to Haneda (another airport for domestic flights in tokyo. BTW Narita IS NOT Tokyo. ) I wasn't too happy to hear that, but whatever, at least they made an attempt to fix it.
I take the "limousine bus" ( just a big bus, nothing special ) to Haneda, there was a traffic jam and arrived 30 mins late ( 2 hours ). Upon arrival to Haneda I immediately run to the check-in counter... and just my luck.. I don't have a seat reserved.. WTH? So again with the time consuming apologizing and confirmation of the apology and a manager apologizing, and a male supervisor apologizing... about 30 mins passed, trying to find me a flight that gets me to the Kansai region.
Oh forgot to mention theres chaos at the airport as flights after 3pm the day before were ALL grounded due to a typhoon in the area. People were just frustrated... but EVERYONE/EVERYTHING was calm cool and collective. no screaming shouting and over reacting.. something us westerners could learn from. seriously.
anyways, 30 mins passed and they found me a seat on a flight that was delayed by almost 2 hours because the plane didn't arrive ( took off late from previous location ). At the end of the flight there was an announcement. "all passengers will receive a 5000 yen refund for the delay" thats about $50 canadian. I thought I wouldn't be able to receive this refund as I wasn't delayed by THIS flight, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway... and there was a envelope with my name on it with 5000 Yen in it.
Then, I was home... well in the in laws home...
and that was my day 0 in japan... ugh.
